A Room of One’s Own – The Story Behind Our Name

When we began shaping our brand, one question lingered more than any other:
“What does a woman truly need to create, to feel free, to feel at home in her own body and life?”

We found our answer in the words of Virginia Woolf, the legendary British writer who, nearly a century ago, offered something radical:

“A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction.”

But to us, a room of one’s own means more than writing.
It means having space - physical, emotional, and creative - to be fully yourself.

We chose the name A Room London not just to echo Woolf’s idea, but to reimagine it for the modern woman. In our world, a room is:

  • a carefully chosen garment that fits your mood
  • a moment of quiet amid the noise
  • a sense of self that is yours alone, no matter where you are

Each piece we create is a small extension of that space - gentle, well-made, thoughtful - designed for women who move through the world with their own rhythm.

Our inspiration often comes from the elegance of the Edwardian era, the intimacy of antique cotton lace, and the subtle drama of old-world silhouettes.
But we design with today’s woman in mind, blending vintage inspiration with modern lines, creating pieces that feel both timeless and personal.

From lightweight pointelle knits to cotton voile blouses, our garments carry the whisper of another time, yet belong firmly to the now. Each design is imagined, developed and refined in our London studio, where every sketch begins with a mood, a memory, or a line from a book.

We believe in slow fashion, limited runs, and pieces you reach for again and again, not just for how they look, but how they make you feel.

In a world of loud trends, we hope A Room London feels like a quiet, confident statement.

A room of one’s own can be anything, a favourite top, a well-worn book, a walk home at dusk.
We’re just honoured to be part of yours.
